California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act is designed to protect consumers against unfair and deceptive business practices.

The Act does not protect against every kind of harm caused by unfair or deceptive business practices but, where applicable, it provides the buying public with a means to redress economic and emotional loss caused by unscrupulous businesses. In other words, to force the business to give you your money or personal property back, pay you all actual damages caused by their conduct, pay your attorney, and sometimes get punitive damages.

The Act provides for heightened damages when the victim is a senior citizen or disabled person.
